Preschool Teacher

Job Contribution:

 

The Preschool Teacher plans and organizes activities for pre-school children that are in keeping with the values and attitudes of early childhood education and community living. This person provides support and direct care to children, encouraging their cognitive, physical, social,emotional and creative growth. She/he is committed to a family centred approach and practisethat celebrates the gifts and uniqueness of every child. The Preschool Teacher is a dedicated and knowledgeable member of an  organization wide support team. She/he is empowered through an action planning process to provide excellence in service provision

 

Education:

 

·       An Early Childhood Educator’s license and Special Needs License is required.

 

Experience:

 

·        At least 2 years in a similar environment is required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

 

Knowledge and Skills:

 

·        Excellent oral and written communication skills;

·        Knowledgeable about the theory of child development and principles and practices of early intervention, early childhood development and the principles and practices of early intervention, early childhood education, and community living sector;

·        Good organizational and time management skills;

·        Understanding of inclusion and an ability to develop meaningful relationships between children with special needs and other community members;

·        Ability to work with minimal supervision and to maintain professional conduct and objectivity at all times;

·        Proven ability to provide assistance in emergencies and ;

·        Demonstrated ability to teach skills and work effectively with others;

·        Flexible and able to respond to changing needs of a group of children.

 

Additional Information and Requirements:

 

·        Approved Criminal Record Search;

·        Doctor’s Note stating you are physically and mentally able to work with people with developmental disabilities;

·        Current (and approved) First Aid and CPR Certificate;

·        Valid BC Driver’s Licence is required and;

·         Flexibility in schedules required.
