Respite |

|
Respite simply means that a paid respite care provider gives families a break by spending a few hours or an over-night period with their child or adult family member with developmental disabilities.
For the family this means a little less stress in their lives; and the chance to do some of the things they would not otherwise get to.

For the child/teen/adult with developmental disabilities this means a chance to participate in social and recreational activities of his/her choice. S/he is able to build his/her own social network, developing skills and self-esteem while having fun.
For the respite care provider this is an opportunity to build relationships with amazing kids/ teens and/or adults, and to make a positive difference in someone’s life.
The Respite Program is an important tool for strengthening families and building healthy and inclusive communities. The children, teens and adults who participate in the respite program enrich the broader community with their many different backgrounds, and their diverse abilities.
RSCL recruits, screens and approves respite care providers to work as contractors. Families choose their caregivers from this pool and train them with regards to the specific abilities of their family member. RSCL supports and monitors respite care providers to ensure a safe and inclusive environment for all.
